Our Beginnings
The Stone and Thistle Garden Club was founded in 1986 at Silo Ridge in Saline, Michigan. What started as a small gathering of neighbors passionate about gardening has grown into a vibrant community of about fifty members united by their love of plants, flowers, and outdoor spaces.
In our early years, membership fluctuated as we found our footing and built the traditions that define the club today. Through dedication and shared enthusiasm, the club steadily grew both in size and in the scope of its community projects.
Growing Roots
In 1991, the club achieved a significant milestone by becoming members of the Michigan Garden Clubs (MGC), connecting us to a statewide network of fellow gardening enthusiasts and resources.
In 1997, reflecting the club's deep ties to the Saline community, we formally added "Saline" to our name, becoming the Saline Stone and Thistle Garden Club — the name we proudly carry today.
Community Projects
Today, our members give back through several ongoing community beautification projects. We maintain the gardens at the Saline District Library and contribute to the grounds at the Depot Museum, both beloved landmarks in our community.
Our Flower Angels program delivers handmade floral arrangements biweekly to organizations throughout the area, bringing beauty and cheer to those who need it most.
The Annual Perennial Plant Sale, held each spring at the Saline District Library, is our primary fundraiser and a beloved community tradition.
Our Original Logo
The club's original logo was designed by founding member Iris Williams, whose creative vision captured the spirit of our club in a single image. Her design continues to represent everything we stand for: growth, community, and the beauty of the natural world.
