Pollinator Bed At Depot Trail

1. Use native plants as they are adapted to your area and the local pollinators
2. Ants, bats, bees, moths, butterflies, flies, beetles and birds can all be pollinators.
3. Eliminate the use of chemicals. Use compost or worm casting for growing healthy plants.
4. Include host plants for caterpillars- they usually eat only one plant variety.
5. Provide a shallow tray for water and one with clay mud for Mason bees & butterflies.
6. Avoid hybrids, especially those with double flowers. They have reduced or missing, pollen and nectar for pollinators.
7. Provide a variety of flower shapes and colors. Use plants that bloom from early spring to fall. Use non-invasive plants.
8. Make a nesting habitat for bees by having dead trees or limbs available. Some bees dwell underground in sandy soil.
9. Cluster 5 to 7 plants (or more) of any one variety together, making it easier for pollinators to find those plants.
